Sunday April 1, 2012 rides

After the rain of Saturday and the passing cold front, we had a beautiful day with nice clouds but a stiff breeze made for challenging flights!

We used the "golf" cart to tow the first ride out to the runway to hook up to the towplane:

Helen and Alexander on their Mile High ride:

While exchanging passengers we were being "supervised" from above by an immature(lots of white marking) golden eagle:

Commercial pilot Doug gave Mark a visitor from London the Monterey Bay scenic ride:

I got to take Mark's companion, Joy, for a Monterey Bay "ACRO" ride!  We put on parachutes, it's the law and sensible too, and towed to 8000' over the Monterey Bay coastline.

After some panoramic 360°s we put the nose down and gravity gave us 120mph airspeed so some backpressure on the stick for 3 Gs had us climbing straight up and around in a nice loop after which we recovered with a zero G push over.  Joy gave a nice scream as most all of the gals do!  We did a "hammerhead" and came to a complete stop for an instant while sideways with the wingtip pointed directly at the ground.  After getting straight and level, Joy took the controls and started our return trip to the airport.  We still had plenty of altitude so we did a spin and a bunch of wing-overs with some nice turns.  I had a good time and I'm sure she enjoyed the experience. I hope she finds a local club in her area where she can pursue training as she showed me "The Right Stuff":
